A Review: Hummingbird Way

This past weekend, Chrissy and I had the pleasure of dining at Hummingbird Way for the first time, and it was an experience we won't soon forget. We'd not tried it before because they'd had a tasting menu for the longest time, and we just don't eat enough to justify eating at restaurants with tasting menus. But Hummingbird Way is now offering a full menu. The atmosphere was inviting, the staff was friendly, and the food was simply delicious. We felt welcomed and well taken care of, setting the tone for a wonderful evening.

Murder Point oysters are incredible!

We started our meal with the Murder Point oysters, which were hands down the best I've ever had. Murder points are our favorite, so we were excited to see them on the menu. They came on the half shell with a side plate of saltines, house-made cocktail sauce, and an incredible pickled ramp mignonette. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, they set a high bar for the rest of the meal.

Ramps!

Our next course was the Hanger Steak. While it was delicious, it did need a few more minutes to reach the medium doneness we requested. Despite this minor hiccup, the flavor and tenderness of the steak were impressive, and it was still a delicious dish. The Hanger Steak came on top of bacon sweet potato hash, greens, blue cheese butter, & red wine gastrique... 🤤

The seasonal drinks we ordered were another highlight of the evening. I had a Missing Peach of the Puzze, which is peach-infused tequila, cocchi americano, citrus, & cardamom. Chrissy had the Woahito, which was blueberry & mint-infused campesino rum, lime, pineapple, & clove. And we shared a Diplomatic Immunity which has Diplomatico dark rum, ancho reyes, vanilla, tiki, & xocolati bitters. Refreshing and expertly crafted, they complemented our meal perfectly.

A delicious Old Fashioned tasting drink made with Dark Rum
Crispy on the outside. Deliciously creamy on the inside.

Our dessert of choice was the Creme Brulee, which was phenomenal. It had the perfect balance of creamy texture and caramelized sugar, making it an indulgent end to our meal. It more than made up for a really really bad Creme Brulee we had a few weeks ago at a different restaurant that left me craving that crispy, creamy combo of a good Creme Brulee.

A biscuit so good it makes you wanna smack your mama!

A special mention goes to our attentive waitress, who went above and beyond. Upon hearing that I was hankering for a biscuit, she surprised us with one. It was incredibly light and tasty, served with whipped butter, dark cane syrup, & smoked sea salt, it was a biscuit above all other biscuits.

Overall, everything we had at Hummingbird Way was delicious, and the experience was nothing short of fantastic. We highly recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone visiting Mobile. Whether you're a local or a tourist, make sure to add Hummingbird Way to your list of must-visit dining spots. You won't be disappointed!
