Title: Youth Case Worker Intern
Position Summary: The internship will begin on Monday, August 13 (unless otherwise agreed upon by the intern and internship supervisor) and continue for the duration of the Fall 2018 semester. Prior to the start date, the intern will need to submit a background check through the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR), sign the required statement of faith and complete the required training. Supplemental training opportunities will be provided throughout the semester.
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
- Attend weekly meetings with supervisor
- Meet with assigned youth on a weekly basis
- Follow provided curriculum during weekly meetings
- Report and manage case files of assigned youth
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: It is required that the intern have a passion and enthusiasm for working with marginalized and at-risk youth. In addition, developed organization skills, punctuality, and a reliable source of transportation are also required. It is preferred that the intern be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with a primary focus on criminology, pre-law, psychology or sociology, but other majors will be considered.
Program Summary: The primary focus of this internship is to meet with mid-risk juvenile offenders on a weekly basis to offer support while helping them understand the consequences and damage of their choices. Please note:
- Curriculum (Justice Circles) is provided to the Youth Worker.
- A Youth Worker’s “caseload” includes no more than three juveniles at any given time.
- Each “case” has a duration of four weeks.
